So the Confederacy had there hands full, besides they were losing the war after 1863.Captain Richard's miniature Civil Warhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17149386738466118837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3824421668081446600.post-39727325690367579022012-05-01T04:29:26.814-07:002012-05-01T04:29:26.814-07:00Captain, that is a fascinating story. You mention that the Confederacy placed a bounty on Upham's head - did they do anything to encourage anyone to collect it, such as a bounty hunter or an assassin? Thanks for posting - a really interesting snipet of history.Sidney Roundwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14795563060856586670noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3824421668081446600.post-17261347376436888662012-04-30T06:06:44.766-07:002012-04-30T06:06:44.766-07:00Thank you for the comments...It was interesting to...Thank you for the comments...It was interesting to me because I was in the printing business all my life. He was actually accused of printing Union currency also, which he never did. Edward Stanton had that case dropped and actually provided Upham with high quality paper to print on. He stopped in 1863, after the south was defeated in Vicksburg and Gettysburg because Confederate currency was practically worthless after Gettysburg. Even the Confederate soldiers wanted to be paid in greenbacks because most places would not accept Confederate currency.Captain Richard's miniature Civil Warhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17149386738466118837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3824421668081446600.post-80000284707656894892012-04-30T05:21:54.435-07:002012-04-30T05:21:54.435-07:00That was a good read.
